Ethnic Water Village In A Lagoon (4 hours) Depart 0830

40km from KK, Mengkabong is a Bajau fishing village set on stilts over a lagoon with mangrove-lined shores. The fishermen are self employed and work alone. Visit a native market* and a suspension footbridge. This tour gives a cultural insight into a lifestyle in transition with its blend of traditional and modern. Visit a pottery on the return trip.

Ethnic Villages in A Valley (5 hours) Depart 0800  

40 minutes & a world away from the Mengkabong are the kadazandusun rice farmers of the narrow Kiulu Valley. Visit a native market* and tour a gloriously unspoilt scenery of terraced ricefields, bamboos, and simple bamboo farmhouses, with a sparkling clean Kiulu River flowing over a stony bed, spanned by suspension bridges. And all around, the steep, lush green slopes of the Crocker Range foothills. Cool off with a dip in the Kiulu. Visit a pottery on the return trip.

Kota Belud Sunday Market (Daytrip: 6 hours) ) Depart 0730
Drive 75 km north along the Crocker Range to Kota Belud, the horsy capital of the Bajau community. Visit the biggest open-air 'Tamu' in North Borneo. Handicrafts and livestock, ranging from poultry to goats and water buffaloes, are sold alongside with local native hinterland products. A weekly social event for the rural folk, the tamu is of socio-historical significance and provides a good photo-opportunity to capture some of Borneo's cultural heritage.

Rungus Longhouse Tour (Daytrip: 9 hours)  Depart 0800  

The Rungus, a tribe of the Kadazandusun group, are found mainly on the Kudat and Bengkoka Peninsulas in the northern part of Sabah. Experience the past through the communal longhouse lifestyle that is fast giveing way to modernity. Excellent phot-opportunities as many of the ladies still wear the traditional chest-to-calf black sarongs and other native ornaments. Cultural performance can be arranged on request. Visit will also be made to Kota Belud Tamu (BIM C-4) if it is Sunday.

Ethnic Villages: Bajaus & Kadazandusuns (Daytrip: 7 hours) Depart 0830

This tour combines BIM C-1 & BIM C-2, with lunch at a coffeeshop. End the tour with a dip in the refreshingly cool waters of the Kiulu before returning to KK in the late afternoon.
