GETTING AROUND IN MALAYSIA

  Malaysia is accessible from other countries by sea, road and most commonly by air. By air, there are several international airports located at Kulau Lumpur, Kuantan, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and some of the major cities in Malaysia. Malaysia new international airport (KLIA) is located in Sepang. In KLIA, visitors can find everything they could ever need to make travel as smooth, secure and satisfying as possible.By sea, there are several ports of entry at Penang, Port Klang, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. By road, there are roads linking the neighbouring countries of Thailand and Singapore.

Malaysia has excellent transport infrastructure which assists foreign travellers to access to many parts of Malaysia either through air, road, rail, or sea linking city to city and to town.

AIR

  • There are some 35 international airlines making Malaysia as one of their destination. Malaysian Airline System (MAS) has covered flights linking to all the major cities and towns.

RAIL

  • Malaysian Railways also known as Keretaapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) operates train services covering from south of Peninsular Malaysia to as far north as the Thailand border. There are services ranging from first class coaches, night-time cabins, closed circuit television, piped music, telephones, and etc.

ROAD

  • Most of the Malaysia's cities are linked by roads which make it easier for travellers to move around by car. Hire car services are available in major airports and cities. The impressive North-South Expressway provides multiple carriageway from the south to as far as Penang in the north. Toll charges are applicable using the Expressway. Charges are depending on the section of the expressway travelled. Cars in Malaysia are left-hand drive and driving in Malaysia in on the left side of the road. International Driving Licence is required for tourists.

SEA

  • Travelling by sea can be very interesting in Malaysia. There are ferry services linking mainland to island or island to island. Certain ferry services include also car-passenger. There are sea-cruise and river-cruise operated by some of the local tour agents.

BUSES AND COACHES

  • Bus services are available within the cities cosmospilitan. Coach services are available for inter-city travelling. Travelling through coaches is interesting as you get to watch the scenery along the way while enjoying the comfort inside the coach.

TAXIS

  • Taxis services are operated within the cities cosmopolitan. If required, taxis can be negotiated and contracted to travel to certain part of Malaysia which is not too far. There are several companies offered taxis and limousine services in Malaysia.

TRISHAWS

  • The older way of moving around within the streets in the city. It is a three-wheels vehicle modified from a bicycle. Some can be very beautifully decorated. It is slowly being phased out as most cities are becoming more and more modernised. However, in certain parts of Malaysia, the service is still available for tourists. Fare is to be negotiated.
