Welcome
to Malaysia's space-age international airport and the new home of Malaysia
Airlines. Operational on June 30, 1998, KLIA is one
of the most modern and sophisticated airport in the
Asia-Pacific region. KLIA is a spectacular feat of
construction that combines futuristic technology,
Malaysian culture and the rich, tropical splendour of its
natural resources.
Located within the
Multimedia Super Corridor and close to the country's
future administrative capital, Putra Jaya, the airport is
approximately 75 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur's city
centre. It is accessible via the Kuala Lumpur - Seremban
Highway/KLIA interchange as well as the Shah
Alam/North-South Central Link Expressway. Drive time to
the city centre is approximately 60 minutes.
Passenger flow is
contained in three main complexes - the Satellite
Building, Contact Pier and the Main Terminal Building.
The Main Terminal Building is linked to the Contact Pier,
while a fully automated train shuttles passengers between
the Satellite Building and the Contact Pier. Check-in and
Immigration are handled at the Main Terminal Building,
while disembarkation and embarkation are handled at the
Contact Pier and the Satellite Building.
The Satellite Building
serves passengers travelling on international flights.
The Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge, duty free shops,
restaurants and other facilities, such as an 80 rooms
hotel are situated in this building.
At the multi-level Main
Terminal Building, six check-in islands with up to 216
counters are located on the Departure level. Also on this
floor are duty free shops, restaurants and other
facilities such as foreign exchange counters and
telecommunication facilities. One floor down is the
Mezainine Level, the central gateway for passengers bound
for international destinations.
On the Domestic Level,
arriving passengers move rapidly through 58 immigration
and 26 customs counters as well as claim their baggage
from one of the 12 carousels.
