Wining
and Dining in Malaysia can be very exciting. With so many
different culture and ethnic groups in Malaysia, there is
no doubts that Malaysia has so many variety of the exotic
foods and dishes available. Eating is the favourite
national pastime. Friends, relatives and business people
most often meet in an eating place for discussion,
chit-chat and also enjoy their favourite food.
There
are also many choices of food available in Malaysia. You
can choose to eat in a cheaper open-air or covered market
food stalls and hawkers. Or you can eat in an
air-conditioning restaurants, or elegant restaurants
within the major hotels. Restaurants are usually serving
specific cuisines ranging from Asian to Western. Hawker's
foods are of great variety. Cheap and fast. Western fast
food restaurants like MacDonald, KFC, A&W, and many
others are also available in Malaysia.
The
Malaysian local foods represent some of the world's
famous dishes from the three main ethnic groups in the
country, namely Malay, Chinese and Indian. The Malay
foods resemble both the Indian and Indonesian with
spices, chillies and coconut milk. The Chinese foods are
mostly dishes from the Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka,
Szechuan, and Taiwanese kitchens. Nonya dishes, devised
by the Straits-born Chinese are also popular.
The
Malays and Indian Muslims do not consume pork. They
consume mostly chicken, beef and fish. Majority of the
Indians are Hindus, they do not consume beef. They
consume mostly chicken, fish, mutton, and most often
vegatables. Many Indians are also vegetarian who do not
consume meats.
Eating
Nasi Lemak, Noodles and Indian Roti are the favourite
breakfast for many locals. Eating in coffee shops with
hawker stalls serving many different kind of local dishes
are popular among the office workers during lunch time.
At night, there are many restaurants decorated with
bright lights attracting their customers. There are also
many places where you can eat cheaply especially on the
open-air food stalls or food stalls inside a local coffee
shop.
