About Hong Kong
............................................................................................................................
Hong Kong with a population of about 6 million Chinese
can be divided into four parts, namely Hong Kong Island,
Kowloon, the New Territories and the colonys
numerous outlying islands. Hong Kong Island or the
"island" as its popularly known is 75 sq
km of topsy-turvy real estate. It is dominated by great
banks and counting houses, enormous futuristic buildings,
opulent hotels, splendid residences on Victoria Peak,
fine beach resorts and the colonys oldest Chinese
communities. Across Hong Kong harbour , about 2 minutes
by the underwent Mass Transit Railway is the mainland
town of Kowloon. Kowloon is a residential-industrial
complex packed into 6 km. The Boundary Street is the
demarcation line between Hong Kong colony and the New
Territories(NT). The NT used to be called
"unspoiled", a century ago. Today, it houses
countless factories that are hardly beautiful. Progress
and population pressures have caused the government to
instigate "new town" projects. Little market
town like Tsuen Wan, now has a population of 700,000 and
a once tiny pirate port like Tuen Man is fast expanding
to house 600,000 population. Along the New Territories
there are about 234 islands. Few of these islands are
inhabited
