The people,
language and religions

Hong Kong is a land of immigrants and children of immigrants.
Most of the older population immigrated from China during
the last few decades, but the majority of the total
population is young and were born there. Their official
languages are Chinese and English but the Cantonese
dialect is widely spoken. To many Chinese in Hong Kong,
religion is a pragmatic matter. Some get baptized into
Christianity for personal gains, benefits from Christian
charity organization, social status, availability of
gravesites in Christian cementeries and other practical
consideration. Supersition is perhaps the most
appropriate name for Hong Kongs religious bent.
Almost every Chinese , be he Christian, Buddhist or
atheist, believes in occult forces. |
