The People and their Language
The people
of Philippines and even the pre-Hispanic people of these islands are called
Filipinos and Filipinas. In 1937 Tagalog the language was given the status
the national language. It was in 1973 that Tagalog was enriched with vocabulary
of several other regions and was officially re-named Filipino. However,
compared with other neighbouring countries, almost everywhere the people
speak tolerably good American English.
