Abra Province, is an impoverished mountain province lives mainly from tobacco and timber from its dwindling forests. It has gold and iron ore deposits, but these are as yet scarely exploited. The unequal distribution of wealth and property have turned Abra into war-zones between the New People’s Army and the regular army. Attractive places here are the Bani hot springs, set in wild scenery near Boliney, or Lake Kimkimay near Pilar south of the provincial capital Bangued.
