Basilan Island, is to the south of Zamboanga is a province with a population of about
250,000.
The majority of the population are the Yakan, the
oboriginal Austronesian inhabitants. The little capital
of Basilan , Isabella lies on the north coast, right in
the lee of the offshore island of
Malamaui.
