In
Batangas Province, Mount Taal Volcano is one of the outstanding
natural sight of Philipines which can be reached by from
Manila or from Cavite City. The best point of viewing the
volcano lakes and centre islands are from Tagaytag City
which is situated in the huge rim of the volcano. People
come to Tagaytag for the view, fruits , pony rides for
children and cooler fresh air. Mount Taal is one of the
most dangerous volcanoes in South East Asia. It has
erupted some 30 times. In 1911, the death-toll was 1,300
and in 1965 a new crater opened up in the southwest of
the island, killing 200 people in the process. Each time
the farmers and fishermen moved back to the volcano and
the shores of Lake Taal, drawn by the fertility of the
soil inspite if the volcanos destructive power.
The provincial capital, Batangas City is a
lively port. It is the most imprtant industrial center in
southwestern Luzon and has a population of 200,000.
Calatagan Peninsula, is located not far from Taal.
Matabungkay and Calatagan beaches offers numerous holiday
development. Theses beaches, the best vicinity of Manila,
offer full range of facilities from simple bamboo huts to
luxurious clubhouses. Anilao & Maya Maya on Batangas
Bay are places to go for diving, snorkeling, boating,
swimming and
windsurfing. |
