Masbate Province looks rather like a beat-up boomerang on the map. This island can be called one of the most undeveloped regions in the Philippines. Their unaffected, rustic way of life, steeped in tradition, makes the islanders very endearing. But at the sametime, the political and economic situation has earned Masbate the nickname "Wild West". Unlike the surrounding islands, Masbate does not have a particularly attractive landscape. For a long time now, the area around the provincial capital Masbate as a result of large-scale deforestation to clear the land for cattle raising has appeared less pleasant and green.
