Pampanga Province
............................................................................................................................
Pampanga Province, which adjoined
Bulacan is inundated with tourists and curious
spectators. They are here to watch emulators of Jesus
Christ gather in a rice-field outside the provincial
capital San Fernando to have their hands pierced by real
nails, so that they can be crucified voluntarily for
about half a minute each. Angeles City in Pampanga, which
was first a boom town, thanks to American patronage and
then a wasteland buried under Pinatubos
ash. Now it is a lively centre with growing
industries and an active nightlife. Pinatubo eruption
made nearly a million people homeless and an area of over
300 miles under rice cultivation has been rendered
useless for generation to come.
Clark Field which is the
site of the former US Air Force is located in Angeles
City. Now it is part of the 28,000 hectare Clark Special
Economic Zone with eleven duty free shop and five
casinos.

Mt.
Arayat which is to the east of Angeles City,
rises majestically in the cane and paddy fields of
Pampanga. The National Park offers swimming pools that
are fed by the free-flowing spring water, pinic areas,
and trails leading to the top of the volcano.
