Pangasinan Province
............................................................................................................................Pangasinan
Province, on the
north of Zambales province is where the sea-salt is found
the Gulf of Lingayen . In the middle of the 16th century
the Chinese pirate Lee Mah Ong, along with 3000 men tried
unsuccessfully to set up a base here after failing to
capture Manila.
The chief tourist attraction here is the Hundred
Islands National
Park near the small town of Alaminos. In fact there are
rather fewer than a hundred of these little coral islets.
They are covered with shrubs and flowers and indented by
creeks. Sadly, fishermen with dynamite have long ago
ruined things for scuba-divers. There is also the church
of St James and Regional Museum which gives an insight
into the life and culture of the Philippines from the 7th
to the 15th centuries.
