Neuva Vizcaya Province
............................................................................................................................Neuva Vizcaya Province is located
to the south of Isabella. Fairly undeveloped and more
than half the inhabiants live in the countryside, growing
vegetables, rice and weaving baskets. Many travellers
merely pass through Neuva Vizcaya, because at Bagabag in
the north is the turning for the road to the famous
rice-terraces of Banaue. The most important towns of the
province are Solana, Bambang and the provincial capital
Bayombong. Banaue is located just an hour drivefrom
Bagabag is famous for its rice-terrace, the
oldest date back from 1,000 to 2,000 years ago. They are
a sight to behold. Nestled within the Cordillera ranges
in central Philippines, they reach up to a height of
1,500 meters and if stretched end to end, will extend to
over 20,000 km. It is mystifying how the ancient Ifugaos
with their primitive tools and olden method were able to
achieve this singular feat of engineering. Banaue town
have properly retained much of its timeless ways. The
town has a number of handicraft shops selling baskets,
carvings and woven fabrics. German anthropologist H.
Otley beyer is the first outsider to be accepted and now
honor in the Ifugao tradition for bringing the Banaue
Rice Terrace to international attention.
