Zambales Province
............................................................................................................................ The
most American town in the Philippines, Olongapo City is
located in the south of ZAMBALES PROVINCE . Subic Bay
once a preferred rest and recreation port in the Pacific
for the United States Seventh Fleet until the final
withdrawal of the US navy in Nov, 1992 has developed into
a special economic zone, with industry, shipyards and
plenty of tourist facilities such as hotels, golf course,
duty free stores and etc.
Barrio Barreto which is a two mile stretch
along the beach and located twenty minutes from Olongapo
City is filled with tourist facilities but Baloy which is
five minutes from Barreto is a more preferred popular
tourist place as rooms and foods here are cheaper than in
Barreto. Journey up to the Zambales mountains visitors
can find beautiful beaches in front of them. To further
north of Olongapo City, the cleaner are the sand and
water. The coastal road though very pity-holed, leads
past many bay and offshore islands wonderful places for
diving and on to Iba, the capital of Zambales.
