The average relative humidity is about 85%, moderated by the prevailing cool sea breeze.

Rain falls throughout the year but is heaviest during the northeast monsoon season from November to January with an average annual rainfall of 2360mm (93 inches). The driest month is July. February is usually the sunniest month while December has the least sunshine. From April to November, early morning thunderstorms known as ' Sumatras' occur three or four times a month.
