- Changi
Airport
............................................................................................................................
Dominating
the eastern end of the island is Singapore's
international airport. The site on which it
stands was cleared of coconut plantations to
become a British naval and air-force base in
1926. Changi became an international airport
1981, and its second terminal was completed in
1991. Voted the best airport in the world, it has
been called ' a global hub that is a destination
in itself'. Transiting here can be sweet agony
when you are faced with over 100 shops, a free
two-hour city sightseeing tour to join and a
flight to catch. There are over 20 restaurants
and bars, 100 day rooms, gym, sauna, health
centre, two fully equipped business centres, a
free mini cinema screening the latest
blockbusters, and much more. For children, there
is a 'science discovery corner' and nursery with
play area.
