- Arab
Street
Amongst
the first traders to arrive in Singapore were the
Arabs, dealing in Arab Street retains its
distinctive flavour and Aladdin's cave
atmosphere. The numerous shops are a riot of
colour, overflowing with shimmering silks, batik
and other textiles, all at bargain prices.
Baskets, some quite big enough to hide one of Ali
Baba's forty thieves, festoon the shopfronts,
while the five-foot way is filled with goods from
antiques, trinkets and leather goods to Turkish
scents.
