Situated
opposite Raffles' Landing Site on the southern
bank of the Singapore River is the Boat Quay
Conservation Area. The once busy cargo loading
bays have been transformed into a tourist
attraction. Shophouses, warehouses and godowns
have been spruced up and converted into
restaurants, bars and entertainment centre.
Bumboats which once carried cargo now transport
tourist on river cruises. It is worthwhile
joining one of these (best at high tide) to enjoy
the views of riverside Singapore set against the
gleaming skyscrapers in the background.
