Botanic Gardens
Close to
the city, not far from the top end of Orchard
Road, the Botanic Gardens in Cluny Road were
founded in 1859, and now provide a green refuge
for those wanting to escape from the suffocating
city atmosphere. Covering an area of 52ha (130
acres), vistas of rolling green lawns are
punctuated with bursts of colour from a profusion
of orchids and other flowering plants. The
gardens' orchidarium displays 250 orchid species
and hybrids.
