Road is essentially one big shopping centre, but
midway along this busy street is Peranakan Place
where six old shophouses have been restored to
their former glory with decorative tiles and
fretwork painted in pastel colours. The Museum,
at 180 Orchard Road, depicts the affluent
lifestyle of the Peranakans, or Straits Chinese,
the descendants of early Chinese settlers who
married the native Malays in the 15th and 16th
centuries.
