Zoological Gardens
Located
on Mandai Lake Road on the eastern flank of the
Seletar Reservoir, no wildlife lover should miss
a visit to this exceptional zoo. Inaugurated in
1973, it is set in a beautiful park of 90ha (220
acres) and designed in accordance with the 'open
zoo' concept pioneered by Carl Hagenbeck at
Hamburg Zoo. The animals are kept in recreations
of their natural habitats in enclosures without
obvious barriers of fences. The illusion of
freedom is enhanced by the presence of cascading
waters and moats blanketed in lush tropical
plants across which visitors can view the animals
in safety.
