MRT (Mass Rapid Transport)
This modern air-conditioned
passenger electric train service covers 42 stations. There are three lines
: the East-West line from Pasir Ris to Boon Lay; the North-South line from
Yishun to Marina Bay; the line from Choa Chu Kang to Jurong East. Each
route is colour-coded and directions are marked on the platforms; travel
maps and guides are available at all stations. Trains operate at intervals
of 3-8 mins from 06:00 to 00:00.
There are ticket machines in the stations. TransitLink farecards (for which
a deposit is charged) are available at most MRT stations and at bus interchanges.
They are valid on the MRT as well as bus services operated by Singapore
Bus Service (SBS) and the Trans Island Bus Service (TIBS). Any unused fares,
plus the deposit, are refundable. A Tourist Souvenir ticket is also available
from MRT stations in the city. Contact TransitLink hotline: 779-0100.
