The People and Religion
............................................................................................................................The people, though they are all
called the Chinese are made up of many ethnic groups, but
the ethnic groups embrace common cultural foundations,
practices and written language. Their national language
is Mandarin.
Traditional religion
still flourished in Taiwan, despite the rapid development
from a rural society into an industrialized complex of
urban enclave. The original religion of the people
actually focused on the worship of natural forces. Later,
the people began to worship the Jade Emperor, a figure
from Taoism, followed by Kuan Yin, the goddess of Mercy
and Buddhism. Today the more common religion practices in
Taiwan are Confucianism, Taosim, Buddhism and
Christianity
