Rayong

Samet Island

Rayong is a province on the eastern seaboard just to the east of Pattaya. Newly developed, it has clear sea water, fine beaches and colourful coral formations. It was in Rayong that King Taksin the Great rallied and recruited his fighters before launching a counter attack on Burmese invading army by sea and regained Thai sovereignty in the late 1767. There is a King Taksin Shrine inside the provincial town and a statue of Sunthon Phu in Klaeng district. Among the numerous fine beaches in the province, the best known are those on Samet Island, which is part of a national park. The place is tranquil, the climate is mild and thescenery is beautiful.
