Surat Thani and Samui Island

As part of an archipelago, Samui is the departure point for journeys of discovery to other neighbouring islands.

Bordering the Gulf of Thailand, Surat Thani is the largest province in the South. It was formerly known as Kanchanadit and then Chaiya. It got its present name, which means the Town of Good People, only in 1915. as there are many islands along its coast, Surat Thani is also known as the Province of Hundreds Iaslands.

Of these islands. Of these islands the best known today is Samui Island, the coconut island which has become a popular resort because of its sandy beaches, traquil atmosphere and the countless coconut palms all over the island. With an area of 247 sq km, Samui Island is the third largest island of Thailand after Phuket and Chang Island off the eastern coast.

The most popular beaches on Samui Island are Chaweng Beach and Lamai Beach and the best known waterfalls are Hin Lat and Na Muang.
